SHRM Membership Ideas and Comments Welcome!
Dec 1 2007, 9:22 AM EST
I've just begun serving on the Iowa State Council in a newly created membership role, and I'd really appreciate and enjoy collaborating with others who have an interest in this area. Please send your ideas, comments, questions, sarcastic remarks, etc. Thanks! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Below is information about goals and potential initiatives from the February State Council report. I'd welcome your feedback and suggestions. Thanks!

Goals
Encourage SHRM at-large members (ALMs) to join local chapters [from 45% to >50%]
Encourage local-members-only (LMOs) to join SHRM [exceed SHRM’s 3% growth goal]
New program: Membership Star State Council / Chapter = 6-9% growth; Superstar >= 10%
Encourage chapter membership through new member acquisition and member retention
o Increase retention/renewal of members with 0-2 years tenure by 1% over 07 rate
o Increase retention/renewal of members with >2 years tenure by .1% over 07 rate

Potential Initiatives for Consideration
Offer standard members database (which c/b cross-referenced with at-large member data)
Offer standard member survey (synchronize timing?); send out to at-large members as well
Offer standard marketing materials for chapter web sites and print materials
Offer standard applications for web entry (preferable) and print
o Include SHRM discount info and SHRM Foundation check-off
Create newsletter for distribution to at-large members
o Offer promotional content for chapter web sites, emails and/or newsletters
o Communicate information regarding significant meetings to at-large members
Communicate effectiveness of pricing and promotions,
Coordinate gathering of Iowans at SHRM Annual Conference & Exposition (table?)
Coordinate a statewide membership drive (e.g., in November-December for 2009?)
Create an “Embrace the Profession” webcast and/or ppt deck to promote SHRM membership
