Southern Iowa District
I hope to use this page to update SHRM Chapters in the Southern Iowa District what is going on with the Iowa State Council and also help provide those chapters help and support. I'm new as a District Director so I'm still not sure what I'm doing, or for that matter what I want to be when I grow up.
The Southern Iowa District has 4 chapters: from left to right they are Southwestern Iowa SHRM, Southeast Iowa SHRM (my chapter), Mt. Pleasant HR Association and Mississippi Valley HR Association. We are all fairly small chapters in the world of SHRM but we can have a huge impact for our fellow members since we are able to know each other so well.
This is a good guide for the 2008 Chapter Achievement Plan. SHRM. This is an excellent guide to give you ideas on things you can do to make your chapter a resource for your members. in 2008. Here's the link for the 2008 Planning Workbook. http://www.shrm.org/chapters/resources/08cap_planning_workbook.pdf
If you are new chapter leader you might want to review your chapter by-laws. It might make it easier for you to know what you should be doing or something you should not be doing.
Utilize SHRM's Volunteer Leader Resource Center (VLRC). If you are like me, often there is not enough time to devote to SHRM that you would like. In this center they have already done alot of the work to help you accomplish certain goals so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. It might cut out a lot of time you could spend on other projects.
Finally, there are some meeting programs that I or another SHRM board member could do at your chapter meeting for you. If you are looking for ideas or help please feel free to contact me.

Is anyone from the Southern District planning on attending the SHRM National Conference in Chicago in June?
Do you find this valuable?
