I'm new as a District Director so I'm still not sure what I'm doing, or for that matter what I want to be when I grow up.

The Southern Iowa District has 4 chapters: from left to right they are Southwestern Iowa SHRM, Southeast Iowa SHRM (my chapter), Mt. Pleasant HR Association and Mississippi Valley HR Association. We are all fairly small chapters in the world of SHRM but we can have a huge impact for our fellow members since we are able to know each other so well.

This is a good guide for the 2008 Chapter Achievement Plan. SHRM. This is an excellent guide to give you ideas on things you can do to make your chapter a resource for your members. in 2008. Here's the link for the 2008 Planning Workbook. http://www.shrm.org/chapters/resources/08cap_planning_workbook.pdf

If you are new chapter leader you might want to review your chapter by-laws. It might make it easier for you to know what you should be doing or something you should not be doing.

Utilize SHRM's Volunteer Leader Resource Center (VLRC). If you are like me, often there is not enough time to devote to SHRM that you would like. In this center they have already done alot of the work to help you accomplish certain goals so you don't have to reinvent the wheel. It might cut out a lot of time you could spend on other projects.

Finally, there are some meeting programs that I or another SHRM board member could do at your chapter meeting for you. If you are looking for ideas or help please feel free to contact me.

ABI - IASHRM Collaboration

Click Here for the ABI PowerPoint presentation from the February 2008 State Council Meeting.

Membership

Members are the lifeblood of our organizations - truly our most valuable assets

We are committed to advancing the HR profession and serving HR professionals, and one key is increasing membership in SHRM - both national and chapters

As experts in recruitment and retention, we'll create value for and through people

Diversity

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

IASHRM Technology

We are now forming an new IASHRM Technology Committee. Any chapter and/or national member in Iowa may participate. The following openings are available:

1. An IASHRM E-mail List moderator to approve posts and perform minor administrivia – most labor intensive area.

2. An administrator to encourage and assist wiki publishers here at wiki.iashrm.org– probably a bigger commitment at the beginning of calendar year, training new officers.

3. A administrator to create, update, and maintain databases and internal documentation at our WebEx WebOffice site – a big project when all the new membership lists come in, but much less work after the big push. I’d suggest updating once a month, assuming that anyone would send in the information to the Council. UPDATE - 2.13.18 - Thom Powell has agreed to serve in this role. Thanks, Thom!

If you are interested in serving in one of these roles, of if you know someone in your chapter who would be like to get involved, please call me, Larry Herzog, at 319-277-9260, or E-mail lherzog@sdcdc.com

Iowa SHRM State Council Wiki

The Iowa SHRM Council encourages and invites all local SHRM chapter members throughout the State of Iowa as well as national SHRM members to consult together concerning human resource related activities, needs, questions, and issues.
